Experience in the following areas of mediation:
*Divorce and family law;
*Sectional title and property disputes conciliation and adjudication at CSOS proceedings, as well as general conveyancing and property matters, which has given me background into what is often the primary asset over which spouses and parents might be in dispute and need assistance in formulating settlement arrangements;
*NCR accredited debt counsellor (University of Pretoria): divorce and family disputes often involve a complicated issue of debts which were taken on together, during the course of a marriage. Successful settlements during a divorce will often need to involve a complex restructuring or refinancing of this debt.
*General mediation experience in matters of insurance, banking, construction and procurement disputes, giving me diverse experience in negotiation, mediation, conciliation and settlement;
*General commercial experience in banking, insurance, insolvency and property, giving me general knowledge in what often forms the underlying subject matter of a dispute. Family and divorce mediation training and experience is often too narrowly focussed on either legal rights within the family, or psychological matters of anger and conflict. While these are important, it is difficult to solve disputes and reach settlements if there is a particular factual issue, usually involving financial rights or obligations, as well as property, which needs to be solved first. Coordinating and arranging a plan to solve such an issue is the most effective way to tie in a family settlement which is stable and likely to survive further challenges that arise along the way.
